THE BOOK – HELD BY THE UNSEEN

A Journey from Fear to Trust

The day my beloved son, Jonas, died at just sixteen years old, my life was divided into a before and an after.

There are moments that change us forever.

And then there are moments that shatter everything.

No words can truly capture the pain of losing a child. It is a loss so profound that it changes the way you breathe, the way you think, the way you experience time, and the way you see the world.

Nothing prepares you for waking up in a world where your child is gone.

Nothing.

And then comes the question no parent should ever have to ask: How do you keep living when everything has fallen apart?

That question marked the beginning of my pursuit of answers.

I wanted to understand what happens within us when life shakes us to the bone.

Why fear is the body’s natural response to overwhelming trauma.

And why it quietly takes hold of our thoughts, our emotions, and our decisions.

It led me deep into neuroscience, positive psychology, human behaviour, and the science of resilience. What I discovered transformed not only the way I understood my own journey, but the way I understand the extraordinary capacity of the human mind to heal, adapt, and grow.

My book was born from that search.

Today, I know that my story is not unique.

The circumstances may be different, but fear, loss, trauma, and uncertainty are part of every human life.

Too many people live as though fear has taken over their entire identity.

It hasn’t.

My mission is to help you realise that even life’s most difficult circumstances do not have to define the rest of your life.

You don’t have to spend years searching for the answers I had to find on my own.

This book helps you understand what happens within you when trauma and fear take hold.

It helps you recognise that fear is a response—not your identity.

It helps you rediscover trust, reconnect with yourself, and find the courage to move forward with clarity and purpose.

Most importantly, it shows that even after the darkest moments, it is possible to build a meaningful, fulfilling life again.

Because only when we move beyond a life driven by fear can we rediscover trust and step into our full potential.

I wrote this book for you.

For the moments when life has pulled the ground from beneath your feet.

For the moments when fear feels louder than hope.

May it be the steady hand you reach for whenever you need strength, clarity, and the courage to believe that another chapter is still waiting to be written—and that light will find its way back into your life.

With all my love,

Barbara
